SUSTAINABLE FROME MONTHLY MEETINGS

Monthly meetings first Thursday of every month..... 7.00 to eat shared food (there is a bar).... 8.00 for whatever we are doing (usually pretty active).
Food and Land group meets regularly with seed swapping and mass seed purchase from CHASE.
Sustainable Frome aims to be an alliance of organisations and individuals interested in all subjects around sustainability. Meetings aim to be light and social - networking in a pretty stress free environment.

Haybox Cookery at Frome Potato Day

Tim Manning made an excellent hay box, which was much admired at Potato Day. Brenda, Julian and Diane ran the stall. People who visited our stall put their hands into the hay nest and were surprised at how well it kept the jacket potatoes hot. Then whilst they ate pieces of potato dipped in herb butter (with herbs from Brenda and Julian’s garden) we explained the principles of the hay box. It can be used either to cook casseroles or to keep food hot such as the potatoes. See below for details.

Somerset Potato Day - 14th February 2010

The 5th Somerset Potato Days and Seed Swap will be held on Valentine's Day 14th February 2010 at Pylle Village Hall, Pylle (A37) nr. Shepton Mallet BA4 6SZ from10.00am - 2.00pm.
There will be loads of varieties of seed potatoes for sale by the single tuber, Heritage Seeds and everything the gardener needs to stock the Kitchen Garden. Advice on growing, a seed swap, so bring your surplus seeds to exchange, refreshments by East Pennard Garden Club. FREE admission and loads of parking.

Potato Day and Seed Swap, Sunday 21st February 2010 at the Cheese and Grain

The Potato Day and Seed Swap will be held on Sunday 21st February 2010 at the Cheese and Grain between 11am and 3pm.

Entrance: £1 at the door including a free packet of seeds.

This is an opportunity for Frome gardeners to buy seed potatoes, onion sets, garlic, heritage seeds, fruit trees and bushes, rhubarb crowns, etc. and to swap seeds at the Seed Swap table. There will be stalls, information and food available as well as gardening supplies and (hopefully) books for sale.

Sunday 17 January 2010 – Old Twelfth Night

Winter clearing pruning and wassailing

11-3, bring stout footwear, old saucepans (see below) and warm clothing, not suitable for young children because very rough underfoot, bring tools of you have them – there will be some to share. Meet 11am in car-park at top of North Parade.

Refreshments at 1pm and a mini-wassail with cider bowl, burnt toast and ribbons for trees to encourage good spirits, and possibly old saucepans to bang to scare away the evil spirits!
