Forest GardenForest GardenOur last Frome Food and Land Group visit of the year was to Lydford Forest Gardens. This is a 1/4 acre community garden project in the village of West Lydford. The garden was created as a millenium project and is based on permaculture forest garden principles.

Apple Store

Apple StoreApple StoreSandra and John Payne have recently restored an old hard-wood apple store donated to them by Food Frome member Olivia Edwards. It has ten trays and would store sufficient apples to see an average family through until Easter!

Frome Apple Day

Frome Apple Day celebration is to be on Sunday 18th October at Christ Church First School and the Key Centre in Feltham Lane, Frome, BA11 5AJ, from 1pm to 4pm. There are still some things to sort out, but so far we have an apple expert, who can identify the variety of your apples; apple tasting; apple pressing; hot food - including some roast hog and apple sauce; apple games; storytelling and stalls.

Warminster Maltings

Warminster MaltingsWarminster MaltingsThere were some guided tours of Warminster Maltings as part of the recent Heritage Open Days. Warminster maltings is one of only 4 remaining traditional maltings in the UK. They produce high quality malt from local barley which they sell to small breweries all round the country (and as far abroad as New Zealand). It is well worth a visit if you get the chance. Here are a few pictures.

A Roman-style Oven

First Apples from a New Orchard

Food Frome at the Frome Festival

Food Frome is taking part in the Frome Festival. We are serving traditional teas at Rook Lane Chapel on both Saturdays and Sundays (4,5 and 11,12 July) from 2pm to 5pm.

We also have a stall at the Green Fair in the Cheese and Grain on Sunday, 5th July.
