Sustainable Frome Food and Land Events

Posted in

Here is an update on Sustainable Frome's Food and Land Events.

Skill sharing days: Three Seeds of Change (skill)sharing days will be run in the spring, where people can learn something new about a topic that we believe will support sustainable living. Mainly one hour drop-in sessions covering a wide range of topics, from growing food in pots, composting, tool maintenance, baking bread, preserving, to clutter clearing and preparing natural cleaning products, to inspiring talks on subjects such as permaculture, transition towns, co-housing, ethics of fashion, money and education. There will be a resources cafe on site so that people can get more information on where they can go next to develop a particular skill.

Gardening Groups: Would you like to start up or get involved in a local gardening support group? Meet other gardeners in your street and share knowledge and other resources. For more info. Phone Eva on 464520 or Cordelia on 462842

Land for veg growing: If you are looking for space to grow vegetables or if you have garden space to lend to someone for veg growing contact Frome Town Council on 465757.

Vallis Veg is offering organically-certified seed compost for sale at £6.50 per 40 litre bag (£7.50 for home delivery). The compost is based on derived peat, ie. peat that is naturally eroded from moors into watercourses in Lancashire, rather than unsustainably mined from sensitive wetlands. It’s pricier than standard seed compost, but gives the superior quality of peat-based composts without the environmental guilt. You can order standard module compost, or specially-formulated tomato compost or leek & onion compost (you can also order blocking compost if you wish, if there are any soil block aficionados out there) – any combination of the above is also possible. Orders need to be in by Friday 22 January. Contact Chris Smaje on info@vallisveg.co.uk, or Frome 462842.
