Potato Day and Seed Swap, Sunday 21st February 2010 at the Cheese and Grain

Posted in

The Potato Day and Seed Swap will be held on Sunday 21st February 2010 at the Cheese and Grain between 11am and 3pm.

Entrance: £1 at the door including a free packet of seeds.

This is an opportunity for Frome gardeners to buy seed potatoes, onion sets, garlic, heritage seeds, fruit trees and bushes, rhubarb crowns, etc. and to swap seeds at the Seed Swap table. There will be stalls, information and food available as well as gardening supplies and (hopefully) books for sale.

How the Seed Swap will work: we will have a swapping 'circle' of tables with a few people in the middle taking seeds and filing them in boxes for 'tomatoes', parsnips', 'squash', etc. People can either donate seeds or a small amount of money and then they can help themselves to the seeds they want.

Bringing seeds to the Seed Swap: We would like people to bag up their seeds and label them before bringing them to the seed swap to make for an efficient exchange of seeds on the day. (Envelopes and pens will be available as back up).

A few good reasons to participate in a seed swap

Swapped seeds are FREE

Locally saved seeds are likely to be well-suited to your local growing conditions

They often come with first-hand advice on how to grow them

Seed swapping helps protect plant biodiversity

Community Seed Swaps are great places for meeting local people with a shared interest in growing food and protecting the environment

Seed Swaps can become exchanges for all sorts of useful local knowledge, as well as seeds.
